West Ham United are worried Jack Wilshere’s season is over already, according to reports.The England international completed a free transfer across London from Arsenal in the summer.2

However, the 100,000-a-week midfielder has looked woefully off the pace since arriving at the London Stadium and his season may have gone from bad to worse.According to the Daily Mail, the 27-year-old may have played his last game for the Hammers this season as concerns over persistent ankle injuries continue to hinder his progress.Having started all four of West Ham’s first four Premier League games, Wilshere then went under the knife to cure a problem in his left ankle.As results improved on the pitch, the medical team were sure to ease Wilshere back into first-team action.Instagram @jackwilshere2

He returned in a five-minute cameo at Newcastle at the start of December, but then picked up a problem in his right ankle.Under the close attention of West Ham’s head of medicine Richard Collinge, Wilshere has tried to return. But the injury has not settled down.It is unclear whether or not Wilshere needs yet more surgery, but there are fears his 339 minutes of action will be all he has to show for his debut season in Claret and Blue.The midfielder missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup in Russia and was told by new Arsenal boss Unai Emery he was not part of his plans for the upcoming season. A move to West Ham was meant to spark a revival in what has been an injury-ravaged career for the star.But his four starts have all ended in defeat and the emergence of Declan Rice, coupled wth Robert Snodgrass’ form, mean a return to the team would not be guaranteed.Should his season-ending injury be confirmed, Wilshere would join Andriy Yarmolenko and Carlos Sanchez on West Ham’s list of long-term absentees.
